Ground berries of the sumac shrub, deep wine-red with a fruity, tangy, earthy and citrus aroma. Perfect for acidity in dishes. Long before lemons reached Europe, the Romans imported Sumac from Syria to use as a souring substance. The spice is mainly used in Lebanese, Turkish, Syrian and Iranian cuisine. Much like salt, sumac enhanceds the flavours of food to which it is added. Sprinkle sumac as a garnish over finished dinishes for maximum taste.
